Responsible Riding

We are a family that loves to quad.

We are also responsible riders.

If you are a user of ATV's, skidoos, off-road bikes, and off road vehicles here in the Yukon please click on this link to fill out an opinion survey on the Safe Operation and Use of Off-road Vehicles.

Then go and become a member of the Yukon Off-Road Riders Association. Fill out their survey as well. You can also find them on facebook.

Both of these surveys will take just a few minutes of your time. The government needs to hear from responsible riders. Even if you only use your off-road vehicle a couple of times of year for hunting, to take photos, or a family ride in the snow please go and take this survey. Have your voice heard!

Just one more thing- please join our family in asking for a helmet law. We have seen tragedies that could have been easily prevented had a rider just been wearing a helmet.

I didn't realize that there isn't a helmet law. That's crazy!

We have a lot of @$$-hole quadders around here, I am sad to say. Ripping up the greenspace trails so that they become unusable for biking, skiing, and darned uncomfortable for walking. I'm afraid whenever I hear an ATV motor running behind me on the trails, my hackles go up and I'd happily see every quad key thrown away.

*sigh* Why can't everyone be thoughtful and responsible, hmmm?

I hear you Fawn. I get upset too when I see yahoos out destroying the land or harassing people on trails. It ends up giving all quadders a bad name and it just isn't fair to those of us who are responsible riders.

So please take families like us into account when you fill out the survey!

I'm with Fawn on this one. I haven't perfected my internal-combustion engine death ray quite yet, but that day may come.

That being said, I have come across responsible and considerate ATV and skidoo drivers on the trails, and I really do appreciate their courtesy. Trouble is, they're such a tiny fraction of the off-road recreational vehicle traffic that I don't see any other solution but across-the-board licensing, registration, and mandatory liability coverage.

Our quads are both licensed, insured and registered. I don't think we are a tiny fraction it is just that you see those same arse-holes more often!

We hear a lot of problems coming out of wild riders in Whitehorse. Perhaps rules need to come into place there that are different than those in the communities.

Wow! So it's just in Yukon that there aren't helmet laws, or is this all over the country, but for ATV etc. vehicles? Wow, you would think that there's a law though! Good luck with getting it into a law! (You would think it's common sense to wear a helmet, but obviously there are people that need it as a LAW in order to do it!) •sigh•

There *is* a helmet by-law in Whitehorse, apparently. The Yukon News has a great article on this whole issue: http://yukon-news.com/news/19485/
