Forest Fires Get Personal

Last night around 8pm I got an email from a friend who lives in a cabin 50km from Faro stating that the forest fire was about 10km from their house and they needed help! Matt quickly got the camper off of the truck, emptied the rest of our stuff from the trailer and headed out along with some other folks from Faro. This is a better safe than sorry situation! They decided to start moving anything they could into Faro and I don't blame them. They have a toddler and another one on the way.

We finally all got to sleep last night around 2am. Good thing I have such a huge house with lots of bedrooms! Matt is back out there with them again this morning hauling more stuff into town. And to boot, they have family flying in from France today that they have to get to Whitehorse to pick up, but the highway keeps closing down!!

I sure hope this all takes a turn for the better, and soon. The smoke is so thick in town that you can only see a few hundred yards. Scary stuff.

Yikes! That is scary. We are lucky, it hasn't been bad this year around here. Some summers we are smoked out too.
Your friend's are lucky to have you, you are 'good people'

WOW! fires everywhere.

Last night while Yancey and D. were bbq'ing dinner (and caught the mitts on fire) I happened to look over the garden fence and saw a 40foot tall pine tree flaming away, about 100 metres below us. Eight houses down a "grill" set the tinder dry pine tree on fire and completely torched half of their house. Major excitement in the neighbourhood as four large trucks, 2 RCMP cars and an ambulance all arrived.

Be safe and what a wonderful group of neighbours you all are.

Dang. If there is anything we can do to help D. and her family from here in Whse, don't hesitate to ask.

Yikes! Not fun at all. I'll try to send the NB rain that way. Good to hear tho that everyone pulls together to help a fellow human out.

How is the situation, Kara?

It is still very smokey! The fire has made it right to the end of the lake, which puts it quite close to some homes in the area. We were supposed to get rain, but no luck!
