Today my wonderful husband spent a lot of the day managing the kids while I got to make something new! I am a serious hunter/gatherer. I think I would much rather stay home gathering plant products and shooting moose versus having a real job!
My project today: Rose Petal Jelly
We went quadding and I picked 8 cups of petals in about an hour. They are so fragrant and beautiful, yet so damn prickly!
Next step is to grind them up a little in the blender:
In the pot ready to boil:
I have two batches on the go here. Look what happens once it boils; the colour is gone from the leaves:
On the right is the rose petal jelly. I made 10 quarter pints today. On the left is my dandelion syrup. I made 7 half pints today! Very productive and fun day! Now to deck them out pretty and put them up for sale.
Recipe that I followed can be found here:

I am planning on the rose petal jelly for next weekend!I am thinking of handing them out at the wedding this fall. Cant wait to give it a try! How much do you sell it for?
I don't know how much to sell it for at all. I am looking online right now to see if I can find out what other folks sell it for.
Very interesting recipes. I've never heard of anything like this before. I'm curious to know what they would both taste like!
Kara, any need to knows about sealing the jars? I know nothing of jellys, so do I just put them in the clean jars and tighten the lid?
I also hope (if I can find someone going to Whitehorse, to pick up what I need) to try candied rose petals, and pansies this summer.
Very cool, Kara!
Hey Sarah- drop me a line on email:

I'm also curious..what does rose petal jelly taste like??
You are so ambitious Kara...most of the time I think I have accomplished alot of I get a shower in a day!!! Good for you!
My God girl-slow down!! You are crazy busy all the time...I know exactly how you feel though, I love trying new projects....Looks tasty.
I will buy some! Can you send it to me???
Wow! I vote you get hunter/gatherer of the year award! Both these recipes seem like they were invented by small children while playing in the forest but it makes it a 100% better because they are actually real! I wish I could stay home from school and cook such things..
You are so creative, it's disgusting. :P
