Being Spoiled!

My parents arrived in Faro just three hours after we did on Friday. Since then we have gotten so much done and been spoiled rotten!

My mother has been cooking enough food to feed an army. My freezer is filling with meals to make our lives easier over the next couple of months. Yesterday she made 20 loaves of bread and 6 dozen buns. Yum! She has also pulled apart most of the rooms in my house to de-hair them (kitties left on their own for a month sure do make a mess!) and get rid of the dry wall dust.

Dad and Matt have been hauling loads of garbage from the renovations to the dump. Yesterday though my poor dad was hit hard with the same stomach flu we had while we were in Whitehorse. So Matt took the time dad was down and out to fix the living room floor. We replaced the flooring in the kitchen so we could put it in the living room to repair where the fire place was. Matt did a great job and the room looks amazing.

Hunter has been playing with all of the new toys his Grandma and Grandpa brought him. He is having a wonderful time bonding with his grandparents, eating treats, and playing in our wonderful weather.

And I have been having quality time with my new rocking chair and Cavan! Life is good.

Photo Shoot

We are home! It feels so good to be back in Faro and in our newly renovated house.

We arrived on Friday evening and my parents arrived just a few hours after we did. So I have spent the last couple of days lounging in my new rocking chair letting everyone look after me. So far so good! Mom has been cooking and cleaning up a storm and my dad has been bonding with Hunter.

Last Thursday, with Cavan just two days old, we had professional pictures taken. We spent an hour with Christian's Photography in Whitehorse. He took nearly 300 pictures and sent us home with them on disc. Now we have to go through them and pick ten that we would like edited by him. The photos he has taken are great!

I almost cried though when I got home and got a disc stuck in my Mac! Thank goodness Kennie came to the rescue and sent me some very useful advice as to how to get the cd out.

Tonight we went through the pictures and here are some of our favorites. I cannot wait to see what they look like once edited.

A boy!!!

Hello Everyone!

Well our baby boy made his arrival yesterday, April 21st, at 3:59pm. He was pretty darn big at 9lbs 2oz!! His name is Cavan Edward Went, has a few wisps of red hair and is just adorable.

My labour was so much better this time! The only issue was the bleeding. I was told I lost three times the normal amount of blood, but am doing surprisingly well. I did not need a transfusion, thank goodness. Today the nurses monitored my bleeding and how the boy was doing, and by 5pm I was out of there! We are back in our Bed and Breakfast and will be heading home to Faro on Friday.

And of course here are the pictures!

My big boy!

And like a typical man, he loves the booby:

Kara will be at the Whitehorse general hospital until late this afternoon. Visitors are more than welcome at any time.

Last One Standing

So the last one standing, date wise, on the baby lottery is Clare from Arctic Bay. He had given a date of April 23rd. I seriously never thought I would be here this long, especially with Hunter arriving early.

On the mend...

Or at least I think! It has been over 5 hours since I threw up last and about 7 hours for Hunter. In the last 24 hours I have managed to keep down a couple of cups of water, a bit of gingerale, a popsicle and half an applesauce cup. Although, anything that went in took the express route out.

I only broke out into tears once. Hunter was sitting beside me on the sofa and we were both crying! Poor Matt, he deserves an award for taking such good care of us.

We all took a trip down to emergency to get checked out. I was to come back for an IV last night if I still couldn't hold in any fluids, but I was keeping down some water so I opted to just stay home and rest. I got a few hours of sleep and Hunter has been sleeping since about 5pm last night. He would wake to throw up a little and then pass right back out again. My poor kid. Him and Matt are still in bed and once they get up I will probably crawl back in there.

Sick

Tonight Hunter started throwing up again. He had barely eaten in the last two days and had just not been himself. We had to throw him in bed with us on a towel because he has been dry heaving all night.

It is now 5am, and I am also throwing up. I would much rather report that the mild contractions I was having most of Saturday had intensified, but nope. I am spending quality time with a bowl and the toilet.

Matt and Hunter are still in bed, but Hunter is waking up quite often to either heave or panic because he cannot find his fleecy or stuffed puppy. Once that is over he falls asleep for another half hour or so.

At this point I am ready to bawl my eyes out. I am so sick of living in a city. I miss my house, my own bed, and my own toilet to yak in.

Predicament Update

So we went to our appointment this morning, and no luck on an early induction. However the doctor did some serious internal poking and prodding to get things started. I actually had contractions from about 11am to 2pm when Matt sent me for a nap. Damn Matt. Damn nap. Everything stopped.

Doctor said the baby's head is right down there just waiting....

So still here waiting, however I have a belly full of a homemade supper thanks to the amazing Fawn and Michael. I am relaxed and happy. I guess if need be Matt will dig into more leave time and we will hang out here in Whitehorse.

We are in quite a predicament!

So I have a bit of a predicament on my hands!

Matt has to be back at work on April 27th. That is just 10 days away.

I know that baby will arrive when it wants to arrive, but if baby waits more than 6 more days or so, we will run into a big problem. We asked how long doctors usually wait to induce if you are late and our doctor said 41 weeks and 3 days. So that puts us into next weekend. No good.

I cannot stay here with Hunter on my own. I just cannot keep up to him while being this pregnant. I can barely get him out of the playpen. Matt cannot take him home because we have no one to look after him during the day, plus what happens when Matt is oncall at night and has to go to work. If Matt goes home, I have no mode of transportation. Plus, I don't want to be here by myself and go through labour on my own.

I am sure I will get some nasty comments on this, but today we are going to ask at our doctor appointment about getting induced earlier. I think this might be a hard concept for people to grasp since most can live in the same community they are going to deliver in. It is not easy living away from your home for weeks at a time and being faced with a predicament like this.

Fun Day

I feel like I have been bitching and complaining way too much lately. I hate doing it, but some days I just need to vent on how frustrating it is to be away from home for so long.

So tonight I will tell you all about the great day I had today!

First off I had the best sleep I have had in weeks. Only two pee breaks, but I fell asleep quickly after each time.

The boy woke up happy as usual at 6:30; he is finally back on a great schedule. I love mornings with him, such a goofy little gopher. We went to a great playgroup today right here in Riverdale. If you live in Whitehorse and are looking for a place to let your kid aged 4 and under have a great time, head to Riverdale Baptist Church (15 Duke St.) on Thursdays at 9:30am. There were a lot of parents and kids there. I found everyone super friendly and Hunter had a blast running around with the other kids. Thank you to Gen and Heather for letting us know about that.

Hunter and I had a great nap this afternoon then we got to visit another blogger!! We went for coffee with Carole. We have met up with six different Yukon bloggers on this trip. I think I must hold some kind of record now!

We went on our usual walk this evening and had a great laugh at Hunter stomping in puddles. We forgot to put him into his boots, so he was wearing his little running shoes! At one point he was in a puddle that was half way up his shins and Matt had to rescue him. He didn't want to move!!

After our walk I decided I wanted steak! So my wonderful husband went to the store and bought me a prime rib steak which I happily fried up and scarfed. The boy went to sleep very easily and I got to watch some pathetic (but enjoyable) reality tv.

So a great day all around!

Diapers and Boots

Matt has always done bedtimes with Hunter. The last couple of hours in the evening are dad and boy time. Matt does playtime, bathtime, bottle and bed. I get a couple of hours to do what I like, although most times this includes cleaning the kitchen.

Watching Matt get Hunter into his pajamas is a hilarious spectator sport. It has turned into quite the game of chase. Tonight Hunter decided he needed his winter boots on for the event. What a nut.

Try and get me now dad!!

Fast as fast can be! You can't catch me!

More Seal Mittens!

I really love working with seal. My mittens are looking great, or at least I think so!

Palm of the new short mitten pattern I am using. Split moose with rabbit trim.

Top side of the new short mitten pattern- seal!

Big mittens that I made for the contractor who was working on our house. Polished moose, rabbit, trim and seal.

I know one is darker than the other, but it was the last of the seal that I had left!

Still in the running...

Skeletor really loves my womb. No early arrival at all!

So still left in the running in the baby lottery for the actual date are:
Tina
Gen
Deiss
Clare
Corrienne

Aida and Indigo are sort of in it, but that is just because they cheated and left two dates each!!

I am at the point now where walking has gotten painful. The futon sofa keeps holding me hostage and Matt has to rescue me from its clutches. We walk a loop of the area we are staying at which is only a kilometer and a half, but I am absolutely pooped at the end of that. At my doctor appointment today, he said the baby is very low and I should expect to pop anytime now. So keep sending me happy labour vibes so we can get this show on the road!!

First Haircut!

Today we finally took Hunter for his first haircut. This boy has had very little hair up until the last few months. I was so sad to see his cute little curls cut off!

He loved this thingy-ma-bob that they gave him to play with while they cut his hair.

The staff at Hair Sensations here in Whitehorse was great! As was Hunter- no tears or tweaking out.

Out and About

Today we took a quick drive up a road near our place in Whitehorse that has a look out. What a beautiful day!

Me and my boy!

Look how big Skeletor is!

Making His Great-Grandma Proud!

My Grandma Hunter passed away when I was four months pregnant with Hunter. This woman had such a sense of adventure that I am pretty sure I inherited and am now passing on to my own kid. She loved the north and was so happy that I headed north after I got married. We talked every couple of weeks on the phone and she wanted to hear all about our lives up in the territories. One thing she was always asking us about was dogsledding. We never had the opportunity until we moved to the Yukon, although when we were in Kugluktuk we commissioned a carver to make a carving of a man dogsledding. She loved it, and we now have it.

A few years ago, Grandma took a memorable trip to Alaska and the Yukon with her son and his wife and also her daughter. My Auntie Holly, Grandmas daughter, after seeing the pictures of Hunter found me a great picture of my Grandma from this trip. I sure do wish she had been alive to see the picture of her Great-Grandson doing something she always dreamed about.

My Grandma posing with the Susan Butcher (she won the Iditarod 4 times, but has sadly passed away) display in Alaska:

Easter Egg Hunt

Matt and I always say we manage to meet the nicest people wherever we go. Whitehorse has been no different and I have another Yukon Blogger to thank. I started following a new blog on Urban Yukon called Gen and the Art of Berrypicking. I soon discovered we had a lot in common and we started emailing.

Gen and her husband were kind enough to invite us over for supper while we had time to kill in Whitehorse. We were in for such a treat! Not only did we have a delicious meal, we had great conversations and the best part- an Easter egg hunt!! Gen had bought the plastic Easter eggs and filled each with a little toy or candy. She had also bought baskets for both her daughter and Hunter.

Our two toddlers picked up on this game very quickly!

Hunter finding an egg!

Being the gentleman and sharing his bounty!

Showing off his basket full of eggs!

Both kids were just as excited to discover there were treats inside! Gen's daughter took to a candy necklace like a magnet and Hunter was enthralled with a tiny loader.

Since our supper with Gen, we have gotten together a few more times. It has been good for Hunter to have a playmate. He sure does like the women!! Today Gen, Fawn and I were all at the Canada Games Centre to let the kids run around. Hunter chased those older girls all morning!!

I am thankful for people like this who are making our stay in Whitehorse so pleasant!

New Garage Door

Since there is still no news on the baby front, I will continue with renovation updates!

Looks like our contractor will be done by tomorrow evening. He had a very busy week doing a heap of stuff for us. One of the projects we had was creating a new garage door that would help to keep heat in the garage! Our dining room and living room are right above the garage which gets just as cold as outside does, partially due to the crappy door that was on there. Now with a new door, we will be throwing an oil monitor heater into the garage to keep it above freezing. This should make the living room and dining room much warmer next winter.

The old garage door set up. There was a door on here, but it let in snow and was just done half-assed.

New garage door set up from the inside. Both doors open and that wooden beam in the middle can come out. This allows us to bring the quads into the garage if we need to work on them. It is also built up at the bottom to keep snow out. The old roll down door is still there and we will pull that out.

New garage door from the outside. So pretty!

Yesterday the contractor worked on putting up wood siding on the garage door, and trim around the outside of the windows. I will probably get pictures of that today.

Now I just have to call the house cleaner and have my house looking all beautiful for when we arrive home. So nice to spoil myself!!

The boy and mittens!

The boy has taken to a new smile. He closes his eyes now and makes an odd scrunched up face. What a nut!

New smile!

He can also dress himself... well sort of! Every morning, while in his pajamas, he puts on his winter boots, coat (backwards of course), and his hat. He is insistent that he wears his hat everywhere, even though it was +6 today, hat was still on. And of course the new smile:

Throwing a fake hissy fit on the floor. He is turning into a professional fake hissy fitter. Little rat.

My first try at a new mitten pattern! Love how these turned out. I am working on another pair with seal on top and they are looking wonderful!
