Toddler Food Tricks

Please let me know what kind of tricks you moms have up your sleeve for getting your toddler to eat!

Lately, if we break up his food into tiny pieces he will gladly eat it! It seems to work really well with bread products which he hadn't eaten in quite a while. The kid is challenging us daily as to what he will eat.

At least he still likes his veggies and fruit, but it varies week to week as to which ones he wants to eat. Last week he was on a strawberry kick, and this week it is watermelon and grapes.

The cute food story of the week was a few days ago when I asked him what he wanted for lunch and he replied with, "macawonies mom!" So freakin cute!

I really don't know if I can help you here...try using different cookie cutters to cut out sandwiches and cheese!! I just bought a dinosaur bread cutter and you have no idea how many dinosaur shaped sandwiches I have cut out in the last week..lol but basically It's eat or don't but when you are hungry later you will get the same thing..lol Hmm sounds a little mean to me oh well it seems to work.
The other night Brian and I just about fell over laughing....I made those sidekick noodle dishes to go with our chicken, Daniel was not impressed with it at all and he was whining about having to eat it then Noah pipes up and says "It's okay Danny you just have to get past the smell!" Oh man did we ever laugh!!

Just make sure you have lots of options, and make sure they are colourful!

My Neice is almost 2 and she loves making pancakes. She stirs while I dump and measure everything. If your worried they aren't getting the vegetables, grate them and add them to the pancakes, biscuits or whatever.

Remember toddlers have really small bodies, to survive the only need to eat 2 tbsp per meal and It's only 3 to thrive!

We bought protein powder and added it to apple sauce and yogurt because those are always easy. This is an excellent article on how to turn a picky eater into a healthy eater.

Hope it helps!

PS I have tons of resources on this so email me if you have any more questions.

When I went to my pediatrician with the same question, he sent me home with the words: "Your son is perfectly healthy and no child will starve to death if there is food available." That didn't make me slle any better, but I stopped obsessing over what he ate - or didn't eat. 2 months later, he woke up one morning and ASKED for breakfast for the first time.
I don't think he's had poor appetite ever since...

I was getting all stressed out about Paige's eating too, and then I read something, somewhere...the mom said that for every meal she tries to have one dish that she knows her kids will eat, and the rest of the meal is whatever she wants to cook - if they eat it, great...if not, fine. We have had meals where all Paige will eat is the seeds inside of beans (not the actual bean though) and others where all she does is dip her fingers in ketchup...but I accept it, and just move on. I know it doesn't help them eat, but it sure does make meal times less stressful!

According to my parents, children are really gullible (or maybe that was just my sister and I). Anyway, they said that whenever we absolutely refused to finish our dinner, my mom would mentally count out how many more "bites" were left in our bowls. Then she'd say, "Just three more bites and then you can stop." Of course, that seemed like a pretty good deal to us so we'd comply. And miraculously, after just more three bites, we'd realize that we really just finished the dinner we didn't want to finish.

Pretty sneaky parental technique : )
