Since returning from our east coast vacation just over a month ago, I have been in a bit of detox. I hate to admit this, but it is good to get it out there- since I had Cavan I have gained 30lbs. That killed me inside, especially since I did not gain any weight while pregnant.
I have been watching what I eat for the last month, trying to avoid my overeating trigger foods and getting more active. An aerobics/weight training circuit has started in town and I have been to all three sessions. It is on a break for the next couple of weeks while the instructor is off on holidays. We also purchased a recumbent bike that I tried for the first time tonight. I did 6.6km in half an hour in the weight loss setting.
It feels good to add this activity to my life. Especially since the aerobics time is kid-free! So far I am down 7lbs and would like to be down another 8lbs by Christmas.

spiffy indeed! i hear ya on losing weight, i gained 8 bloody lbs when i was away, i would like to lose 20lbs by christmas though a more realistic goal would be 30 lbs by summer.

I joined weight watchers 12 weeks ago and have lost 15 pounds. I'm very proud of myself. I'm learning more about my triggers and how to not give in to eating. Two weeks ago I joined Curves and am going 3X per week. I'm happy with that as I know if I try to do more right away I'll get tired and just give up.

There are several women in my life who have had really great results with Weight Watchers. One of my friends is just doing it on her own, not going to the group meetings, so you *can* do it that way, too. Marusia is a total WW guru, BTW. :)
Another thing to keep in mind is that it's sometimes harder to lose weight when you're not sleeping well, so don't beat yourself up too badly for gaining weight after Cavan's birth.

You can do this! It's all math. 3500 calories = 1 pound.
Thanks all! I am going with Megan's strategy right now of doing math with health choices. I have tried weight watchers in the past, and found that with the points I was still able to binge eat. Being a full-out obsessive eater it was not a good plan for me at all. And I would be obsessed with those damn points- very time consuming. I have a great program on my mac that I enter in what I eat during the day so I can watch my caloric intake. I love doing it!
I appreciate all of the support. It is hard to write about all of this stuff, but opening myself up has really helped.

I've been using this online site fitday.com you enter in the foods you eat, actives, what goal you want to achieve and it tells you how many calories you have to eat to achieve that goal.
I'm still down a bunch of weight I lost with WW, Not at my lowest weight, but something that is quite manageable right now. Course we are fickle creatures and the grass is always greener, so on and so forth.

Way to go Kara! Putting it out there is a great idea, helps with being accountable too. And that is a sweet recumbant! I'm back at the gym this winter and am pretty pumped about it, if you need a long-distance workout buddy, let me know! It helps to have someone to "kick your butt" when you just don't feel like working out, or you're having a food craving, etc.
I also found following the South Beach "diet" (though they call it a way of life!) was pretty easy - not a big carb fan to begin with, so I really didn't miss bread and rice and all that. But the stuff you can eat - man you get to eat a lot! I was never hungry, in fact I found it difficult to eat as much as they suggest! (like, every 2hrs, plus loads of water)

Good for you Kara. I've been on the same path for some time now, but the last couple of months since the summer have not been good. I need to get back on track, and your post helps me be more resolved about it. It's not easy, but we'll get there. PS: When will you be back in Whse?

Also, for what it's worth, I am finding a good session of weights is way more beneficial for me. I get the cardio if I focus on continuous movement. At the same time, I get the form of the muscles (tone).
All-in-one sort of thing.

We bought it at Waterstone Lifestyle and Leisure there in Whitehorse. Very, very pricey though! But I needed one to cover my weight and the ones in the other stores like Canadian Tire did not. It is super nice though!
I am also taking part in an aerobics session once a week and a weight training circuit once a week!
You know, one of the best ways to keep on track is to tell people about it. It keeps you accountable to yourself, and others.
