The rest of the week.

On Saturday we dropped my mom off at the airport at 6am. Only the boy was bright eyed and bushy tailed at that hour. We spent the next couple of hours playing with him in the truck and Starbucks waiting for the stores to open. Later we learned that SuperStore opened at 6am that day. Bummer, instead I went there at 2pm and discovered shopping chaos and unfriendly Whitehorsians.

Most of the stores were busy on Saturday and I was really shocked at how rude many of the people were. There is no need to be mean to your poor teller or to glare at me when I accidentally hit your shopping cart with mine. People need to lighten up a little. I had two little old ladies that were super cute though. I ran into superstore to get change to get a cart, then I ran out to get it. On my way in, these two ladies had just walked in and were surprised to see no carts inside the store. They lit up with glee when they saw me walking in thinking I was returning my cart. They were just so cute I traded them my cart for their loonie and went back out and got another. They smiled at me on every aisle of the store!

I was so happy to leave the city. I am really not a big town kind of gal. Nothing there really does it for me at all. After a few hours I feel overwhelmed with the pace of life there and look forward to returning home to Faro. But after this trip I went to Carmacks instead! Matt has been working there for the last couple of weeks and we spent two nights there visiting. Hunter was so happy to have daddy time and did not want anything to do with me at all. So a great break for me.

On Monday afternoon I drove back to Faro. About 45 minutes from town the wind started to pick up. You could see the snow blowing off the mountains. There was so much of it that it looked like clouds and eventually blocked out the moon!! The gusts of wind hitting my truck felt like I was going to go off the road. The next 24 hours were extremely windy, although nothing like some places that were getting gusts close to 100km. Ours were only topping out at 45km, but it just wouldn't let up! And to boot, my window in the bedroom is frozen open a bit and the howling of the wind was loud! I didn't get much sleep at all.

Yesterday and today was spent addressing the gazillion Christmas cards I have to send out and tidying up the house. My neighbour brought in my fake Christmas tree for me and I have it set up in the corner. Still have to fluff the thing out. I really wanted a real tree this year after having a fake one up north for the last 3 years. But Matt figured we would just be pulling the kitties out of it and the boy would eat the needles. So a fake one from Canadian Tire is in my house. For fake though, it looks pretty damn good. And pre-lit too. I seem to be having a few issues with the lights though. One section won't go on and another keeps going on and off every few minutes. Ah well.

So that is it! Nothing exciting happening here at all.

Oh. The evil white kitty barfed in my sewing room. The worst part was she also decided to yak a little into my thread container. I think she would make a really nice set of mittens.

What? You two aren't yakking buddies? That's too bad...

haha! I was going to say the same thing about the yakking.

On that note, I'd really love to see that pair of kitty-mittens!! :)

Oh and the "big city" IS a pain! Especially at this time of year when it's busy and everyone is in such a rush. 'Tis the season to spend a ton of money and get pissy with everyone...

I can't help but giggle when Whitehorse is referred to as the "big city". Whenever we go south to Calgary, Toronto, Vancouver, etc. - especially Toronto - now that's a scary experience I'd like to have over sooner than later. But Whitehorse? I know it's a matter of perspective, but the comment still makes me smile.

Geof, I'm with Kara on this one. Three-and-a-half years in W'hse and I'm STILL trying to get used to the bigness and the hustle and bustle.

I can see your point. Compared to other smaller Yukon towns, villages, etc. Whitehorse is a bustling metropolis. I guess it's just funny labeling it that way, y'know, compared to Toronto (or Delhi) our pace of life is pretty darned slow.

When I first got to Whitehorse almost 4 years ago, I laughed at their "rush hour traffic"...now I've been in the Junction 3 1/2 years...WH traffic drives me NUTZZZ

Although...I DO love getting into to the city every couple of weeks to stock up :) and hit the McD's or Tim Hortons!!!!!

It's so funny to hear Whitehorse referred to as the big city! Whenever we go down to Vancouver we say the exact same things about being there as you said about being here!

Too funny!
